CHARITY NIGHT SUN 10TH MAY 2009 - IN AID OF 'THE ST VINCENT DE PAUL SOCIETY'
The aim of the St Vincent de Paul Society is the same today as it was at its conception in the 19th Century: to tackle poverty in all its forms through the provision of practical assistance to those in need. The concept of need is broader than financial hardship, so visiting the sick, the lonely, the addicted, the imprisoned and those suffering from disabilities form a large proportion of the Society's work. http://www.svp.org.uk
In London alone the Society has a Charity Shop in Hackney providing affordable goods and sometimes free items to those most in need. The Society also hosts a soup run in Holborn twice a week feeding over 300 homeless people.
